Cllr Sean McEniff, the Bundoran councillor who caused a furore when he commented on the purchase of a luxury home for members of the Travelling Community near Ballyshannon said the person or persons who may be responsible for the blaze should “face the full rigours of the law”.
Circa 3am a blaze broke out at the unoccupied 230,000 euro house at Parkhill, Ballyshannon. Gardaí are treating the blaze as suspicious.
Bundoran county councillor Sean McEniff, who less than a month ago caused a furore when he said Travellers should be housed in isolated communities, condemned the blaze.
Cllr. McEniff told the Donegal Democrat. “I totally condemn this out of hand. Whoever did this should face the full rigours of the law.
“It does not change my feelings however on the original process. I firmly believe that this was in contravention of the Rural Housing Integration policy adapted by the County Council and secondly the €230,000 price tag reputed to have been paid for the property exceeds the cap of €204,000.
“This however does not give anybody the right to take the law into their own hands and that is all I have to say on the matter at the moment.”
