The book of evidence in the case of a soldier charged with possession of explosives is close to completion, a court has heard.

Mark Cassidy (29) of Apartment 3, Grianan Vale, Ballyderowen, Burnfoot, is charged with possession of explosives in suspicious circumstances at the same address on February 17th. He is also charged with unauthorised possession of ammunition. He appeared at Letterkenny District Court where barrister Peter Nolan said there would be no application for bail.

Inspector Goretti Sheridan told the court that the majority of the work in the investigation has been done with the exception of two forensic reports which are awaited from Dublin.

Mr Nolan said he could not oppose an extension of the remand in custody adding that it is “quite a complicated case”.

The case was adjourned to Harristown District Court on Friday.
