More than 60 people attended the launch of the Alzheimer respite care centre project in Glencolmcille on Friday evening

It was twice the number the organisers, Lár Chomhairle Paróiste Ghleann Cholm Cille (LCPG), were hoping for. The hall at Oideas Gael was filled with people from every walk of life.

They heard from Dr Diarmuid Hegarty, Eamon Brogan of the Donegal Branch of the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland, Anthony Molloy and Martin McHugh, Fr Francis McAteer PP, Thomas Pringle TD, Minister Dinny McGinley and Noel Cunningham, while Cllr. Brendan Byrne took on the role of MC for the evening. Seamie Coleman, who could not be present, sent along a message expressing his wholehearted endorsement of the project.

LCPG has already obtained a site for the proposed centre, at the location of the old school in Cashel.

The speakers highlighted the need for the centre, its benefits, and the challenges ahead.

“We were absolutely delighted with the turnout and would like to thank everyone for their support,” Aoibheann Ní Churraighín of LCPG said afterwards.
