Two potentially life-threatening incidents ended safely today, thanks to local Coast Guard and RNLI volunteers.
Bunbeg Coast Guard came to the aid of a broken down boat off Gola Island at around 12.30pm while Lough Swilly RNLI inshore boat assisted another boat with five people aboard when the engine failed at 2.30pm.
Both boats were brought back to harbour and all aboard were safe.
On Thursday, Mulroy Coast Guard rescued a snorkeller who became stranded on a sand bar.
The man’s wife, who had been snorkelling with him in Fanny’s Bay, raised the alarm after she lost sight of him at around 2pm.
A spokesperson for Malin Head Coast Guard Rescue said volunteers from Mulroy Coast Guard, which is based at Fanny’s Bay, were quickly on the scene.
The Sligo rescue helicopter was also tasked to the incident because of the very strong currents in the area.
The local CG crew quickly located the man and brought him safely back to shore.
