Cllr John Campbell has welcomed agreement on the Wild Atlantic Way in Mountcharles.
Mountcharles Pier is one of the Discovery Points along the route but locals and businesses were unhappy that visitors were being directed to the pier and back along the same road.
“We felt that from a safety point of view, as well as to protect the walking amenity that his there, it would be better to loop the route around, to come back onto the N56 through the village of Mountcharles,” he said.
“It took a lot of lobbying for a number of months and a report outlining why the alternative was a safer option. These things don’t happen overnight, but I’m delighted that I’ve been able to deliver on this issue. It took a lot of persuasion, as it’s not a Donegal County Council project, their only contract is to put up the signage.
“The additional signage to create the loop element is being surveyed and will be ordered and up as soon as possible.”
