Get your hiking boots on for a Charity Walk over the highest sea cliffs in Europe. On Sunday, June 1st there will be a mountain walk across the world-famous Sliabh League mountian to the Silver Strand, Malin Beg. The walk is for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Fund and in memory of James Maloney, Carrick and Perth.
The Kevin Bell Repatriation Fund helps families who lost love ones tragically abroad. To date they have helped repatriate over 22 loved ones from Australia , America, Thailand, Germany, Spain and all parts of Britain to their families in Ireland-from Donegal to Kerry. The fund is sustained by on going fundraisers and donations because sadly with so many young people away from home, tragedy will happen. For more information on the charity, check out their website: www.kevinbellrepatriationtrust.com
Registration for the walk will take place from 12 noon at the Old School Carrick. Walkers will depart at 1pm and transport will be provided to the starting point and will collect all walkers at Malin Beg. The walk will take between 4 to 6 hours depending on your experience. All walkers will be guided by a member of the Sliabh Liag Walkers Club. The walk will take you along the Pilgrims Path, across Sliabh Liag and into the Silver Strand Malinbeg. There will also be a shorter walk with the group to the summit of Sliabh Liag and back to Carrick, for anyone who wants to partake. It is advisable to wear the correct walking gear and ensure you take water and light snacks.
Refreshments will be provided for all walkers in the Old School Carrick after the walk. If you would like more information on the walk, please contact Sliabh Liag Walking Club at 0863963150
