A female passenger was taken to hospital after a two- car collision at a very dangerous junction at Cloghore on Thursday.

The accident happened at 2.15 pm, as a US couple in a Peugeot 308 travelling from Ballyshannon was turning right into the Celtic Weave Potterywas in collision with a Toyota Avensis coming from the direction of Belleek.

A front seat female passenger in the Peugeot was injured and taken to hospital.

The driver of the Avensis, who is from county Donegal, was in a state of shock but was not injured.

Gardaí and an ambulance were quickly on the scene to attend to the injured.

The collision occurred at a notorious junction that has been described as a “death trap” by a local resident.

An eyewitness who was parked near the junction said there was an almighty rap when the vehicles collided.

“It was a miracle that the woman was not killed.”

One angry Cloghore resident said it had been agreed to have the bend straightened on three occasions with Donegal County Council in the past six years but nothing has happened.

“There was almost a death here today but the danger is not going away.

“This bend needs to be straightened before somebody is killed.”
