The 53-year-old man killed in last night’s road traffic accident has been named as John O’Donnell from Curraghmone, Ballybofey.
Mr O’Donnell, who was a builder, was an extremely popular member of the community.
He died when the van he was driving was in collision with a 4 x 4 vehicle at Welshtown outside Ballybofey at around 7.50 pm. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital where a post mortem is due to be carried out today.
Diversions which were put in place last night remain and an examination of the scene is being carried out by a garda forensic team.
Gardai are appealing to witnesses of the accident to come forward.
