John O’Donnell of Curraghmone, Ballybofey died after the Volkswagen Caddy van he was driving collided with a Toyota Landcruiser at Creggan, Ballybofey before 8pm on Tuesday.

He is survived by his wife Bernadette and children Paul, Shaun, Dominique and Emer.

Fr. Kieran McAteer (pictured) paid tribute to the father of four saying his death had left a mood of extreme sadness in the area.

“He was extremely well known in the locality and he was very outgoing,” Fr. McAteer said.

“He was larger than life. He was held in very high regard. He was the kind of neighbour who would be at everybody’s beck and call and the hearts of this community go out to Bernie and his family. There is extreme sadness.”
