Thousands of students in Donegal are being urged to drink responsibly when they get their leaving cert results this week.

The website, drinkaware.ie points out that it can be easy to get caught up in the excitement of the night and end up overdoing it. Approximately 2000 students sat the Leaving Cert exams in Donegal this year and drinkaware.ie and the National Parents’ Council post-primary are encouraging them all to celebrate responsibly when results come out on Wednesday.

Students our advised to pace themselves and take control of how much and how fast they drink and to have water between alcoholic drinks. Students are also urged not to drink on an empty stomach and to avoid rounds.

The groups also point out that there will be some students that are disappointed and a strong support system is crucial at this time, made up of both parents and friends.

The NPCpp is also providing a free Leaving Cert Helpline which can be reached for a week from Wednesday the 14 between 8am and 7pm daily on 1800 265 165.
