Residents of The Knather and surrounding areas staged a protest this morning against ESB works at Assaroe Lake.
A spokesperson for the Knather and Surrounding Areas Residents’ Association (KASRA) said: “A few weeks ago, the ESB was erecting fencing in the area known as La Puta, effectively cutting off access to the public which had been in place since the ESB took charge of operation on the Assaroe lake. At that time the residents objected.
“Since then, further high fencing and gates were erected to close down a walk used by locals near the area known as the Cliff. This was in clear breach of a commitment given to the residence that this walk would remain open to the public.”
KASRA says residents are concerned about “the destruction of the environment with industrial steel fencing, the closing of walks and the major threat to wild life in the area”.
A meeting between KASRA and the ESB is due to take place this Wednesday.
