Plans for a major rebuilding programme at Letterkenny General Hospital following the severe damage caused by flooding are to be presented by the hospital’s general manager next week.
Sean Murphy will present the plans to a public board meeting of the West/North West Hospital Group in Letterkenny next Tuesday. The board will also discuss the hospital’s recovery plan.
The flooding at the hospital is believed to have been caused by the overflow of a culvert at the rear of the hospital during heavy rain on July 26th. The flooding damaged 40 per cent of the hospital’s footprint and affected 70 per cent of hospital services.
The hospital’s recently opened emergency department was extensively damaged by flood water and was closed. A temporary emergency department opened last month.
