Members of Donegal VEC have passed over the opportunity to elect a parents’ representative as chairperson for the first time.

Bundoran town councillor Philip McGlynn was elected chair in a secret ballot by 21 members. The Fianna Fáil councillor defeated parents’ representatives Frank McDaid and Bernie Mulhern after receiving eleven of the 21 votes at the monthly meeting of the VEC on Monday.

Cllr. McGlynn replaces Cllr. Martin Farren who steps down after 16 months in the position.
