The sands of time are still trickling as the organisers of a special world record attempt await official word if a special Donegal world record attempt has been successful.

Last September over 400 hundred volunteers gathered at Killahoey Beach in Dunfanaghy to attempt beat the world record for the most sand castles built in one hour.

The previous record they were aiming to beat stood at 683. The Donegal group managed to beat that by some way with people of all ages
digging in to build 1,939 castles on the beach.

The group were initially given a time frame of up to eight weeks for the judges at the Guinness Book of Records to verify the attempt but due to a busy backlog of prospective records at the authority the initial eight week time period has now been revised.

The organisers are now hoping to hear from Guinness records in the coming weeks.

While they were waiting for the result they have put together a DVD of the fun event that shows the huge effort so many volunteers made to make the day such a fun event.
