The fire was reported about 10.30 on Monday morning and it was reported that fire crews attended the scene.

However, a spokesperson for Donegal Fire Service confirmed it has no record of any its units having been sent out to deal with the blaze.

The detached house at Drumoghill, Manorcunningham, was extensively damaged in the fire. The house is owned by Donegal County Council.

He said the scene has been preserved by gardaí and that the cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious.

One local resident who saw the house in the aftermath of the fire, said: “It is gutted. The gable walls are standing but the roof has collapsed. The house was occupied up until yesterday,” he said.
