Buncrana Town Council elects new Mayor

At the monthly meeting of Buncrana Town Council yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon Fianna Fáil have taken the chairmanship for the next year.

At the monthly meeting of Buncrana Town Council yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon Fianna Fáil have taken the chairmanship for the next year.

Fianna Fáil Cllr. James Gill has been elected new mayor of Buncrana, succeeding Independent Cllr. Nicholas Crossan with Cllr. Joe Doherty also from Fianna Fáil elected the new deputy mayor.

Letterkenny Town Council is expected to elect a Fianna Fáil mayor also when the council convenes to meet.

Cllr Philip McGlynn, Fianna Fáil, was recently elected mayor of Bundoran.

Ballyshannon Town Council will elect a Fine Gael mayor when they convene. As yet Cllr Val Murray who is first choice within Fine Gael to take the post, has not indicated his intention. If he declines, another Fine Gael colleague will take the position.

Labour Councillor, Frank McBrearty, is expected meanwhile, to be elected county Mayor, as previously indicated by this newspaper.
