Just a few weeks ago this newspaper reported that Donegal had been judged as one of the best value wedding destinations in the country after a nationwide survey was carried out.

Now it’s been confirmed! Donegal has come out tops at the WeddingsOnline Awards, scooping four of the top national prizes. The 3rd Annual Awards were presented at a prestigious ceremony in Dublin’s Cown Plaza Hotel where the glitterati of the Irish Wedding industry assembled.

Over 17,000 brides and grooms nationwide voted for their top 100 wedding suppliers and top wedding venues. These were later judged by an expert panel based on the quality of their work and a real wedding experience.

The National overall winner was the prestigious Harvey’s Point Hotel in Donegal town which is a previous winner of Ireland’s Best Hotel.

Deirdre McGlone of Harvey’s Point told the Donegal Democrat, “We are absolutely thrilled with this award. It really is a tribute to all the hard work and dedication that everybody in the hotel, from the kitchen porter to the head chef, puts into making that ‘big day’ extra special.

“It is particularly rewarding as there is so much competition out there today. I honestly believe that you would have to look far and wide to find a really bad experience but I will have to confess that we have been judged the best!

“I am also delighted to see so many Donegal hotels featuring so high in the national awards. Our next door neighbours in Lough Eske Castle have done well once again as has the Silver Tassie in Letterkenny and the Beach House in Buncrana. It is a great recognition of the high standards in Donegal.”

Peter Bryans of WeddingsOnline said, “The WeddingsOnline.ie Annual Awards have been a huge success in recognising the hard work, dedication

and quality of service that is provided by the many wedding suppliers throughout the Irish Wedding Industry, including bridal shops, photographers, musicians and venues.

“Once again Donegal has proved a very popular choice and there is no doubt that the hospitality industry in the county are driven by perfection in what is regarded as a stunning and beautiful county.”

The award winners are as follows: Overall Best Wedding Venue of the Year - Harvey’s Point Hotel; Best Castle Wedding Venue - Lough Eske Castle Hotel; Best Wedding Co-Ordinator of the Year - Noreen Lyons, Lough Eske Castle; Best Restaurant Venue of the Year - The Beach House Restaurant, Buncrana; and Ulster Wedding Venue of the Year - The Silver Tassie, Letterkenny.
