Tourism group to raise awareness of Letterkenny attractions

The newly formed Letterkenny Tourism was born from local businesses’ desire to work together to promote Letterkenny as a holiday destination. The newly formed Letterkenny Tourism was born from local businesses’ desire to work together to promote Letterkenny as a holiday destination. The sole purpose of this group is to market and raise awareness of the town of Letterkenny, its many assets and tourist attractions and in turn create a strong tourism identity that will benefit everyone involved.

Following many conversations with local tourism suppliers the idea of Letterkenny Tourism was spearheaded by a group of businesses who strongly believe in the potential of the town working together for mutual benefit and have put together a fund to support the initiative with a sole aim of promoting Letterkenny as a leading Tourism provider in the North West.

The role of the committee will be to coordinate all marketing activities and promotions as well as setting up a website to showcase all that is on offer and bring journalists into the area to write about all that is positive about Letterkenny .

“It is felt that every business is affected by the downturn in the economy and with tourism being the key to keeping our service industry afloat a proactive approach was needed to address the fact that Letterkenny and indeed Donegal are both often forgotten on our tourism trail in Ireland,” said P.R.O. Tracy McKeague this week.

Letterkenny Tourism is still very much in its infancy - however, the committee are aware that time is of the essence to bring business to the town for the tourism season. “Letterkenny has so much to offer it is just a matter of letting people know about it in a coordinator approach” says Gerard McGinley, Chairman of Letterkenny Tourism. The group recently met with Transport, Tourism and Sport Minister Leo Varadkar on a recent visit to Letterkenny. The Minister welcomed the proactive approach by the group by saying “It’s a great idea and getting people to buy into it can be difficult but you should keep pushing on and persevering the same as Westport and Killarney have done”

The group emphasises that they would be delighted to see new members on board. “The more people involved the better it will be for their individual businesses and the town in general.” Letterkenny Tourism is a working group that is open to anyone and everyone and if you would like more information on how to join please contact Letterkenny Tourism Public Relations Officer Tracy McKeague on 086 389 19 17 or Email: letterkennytourism@gmail.com
