CONCERNS have been raised about the morale of staff in Donegal County Council’s planning department and the level of service it is providing.
The council’s planning department is undergoing a reorganisation following the massive drop in the number of planning applications in the county, the merging of the former Milford electoral area with Letterkenny as well as the changes proposed under the Transformation of the Public Service.
The council has decided to centralise the planning service’s decision-making process and discussions have been ongoing in recent months with unions on this matter.
The number of planning applications made in Donegal dropped from a peak of 9,353 in 2006 to 2,234 last year. Up to June this year, 1,163 applications had been made.
Cllr. Dessie Larkin said he was more concerned about morale in the planning section than any other section of thecouncil and also the level of service the public is receiving in relation to pre-planning enquiries. He has raised the issue at the council’s Corporate Policy Group Meeting.
