A company with strong Donegal connections has been winning rave reviews for its role in increasing Irish home security

Dubliner Ciaran O’Connell is the managing director of Security Certified Doors but has a strong connection to Inishowen through his mothers family.

Ciaran is also certified mental health counsellor and says that his interest is in helping improve home security as he has seen first hand the effects burglary can have on victims.

Explaining his local connections he says: “My mother Vera, nee O’Doherty, was born in Malin in 1912 where, her mother was the national school teacher there, and lived most of her early years at Tirnaleague House in Carndonagh. In 1928/29 she started her first job in the Civil Service at Letterkenny Post Office. She died in 2006. My mothers sister Alice was also a teacher in Carndonagh for many years.”

Job opportunity

Now he is promoting an innovative new security product designed by his friend Robert Simpson call “Chain Reaction DNA”..

This new innovation combines three major characteristics; a strong security door chain, an alarm that sounds when maliciously activated, and a separate evacuating device that sprays the intruder with a UV based forensic marker. The substance is device-specific and registered to the homeowner, and represents the latest DNA based forensic trace technology. This gives the police a three month opportunity to establish the identity of the perpetrators using UV lighting technology and the DNA trace provides the ability to track criminals back to their crime scenes. Now he is hoping to bring this to Donegal.

“We are hoping also to give employment to at least one person living in the Donegal region to distribute and install this amazing system,” he stated.
