A young Donegal girl who suffers from a life challenging condition had all her Christmas dreams come true last weekend as she met the idol of her life in Dublin.
Little Grace Gilliand from Bundoran suffers from Rett Syndrome but in spite of the challenges that this illness presents she has always been a happy - go - lucky child.
Grace has always idolised Ronan Keating even in his earlier days in Boyzone and is often both seen and heard humming away at his tunes and it has always been her greatest wish to meet him.
Her mother Olga told the Donegal Democrat, “Her face lights upon everytime she sees him on television and I think she just knows about every song he has ever recorded. Without a doubt he is very much the man of her dreams.
“We had heard that the ‘Make a Wish Foundation’ were seeking out children who had very special wishes and just last week found out that Grace would be meeting with Ronan and even better that she would be appearing with him on Christmas Eve on TV3’s ‘Ireland’s Christmas Wishes’ at 8pm and staying in Dublin for two nights”
Cat Steel who produced the show for TV3 said, “This was probably one of the nicest projects that I have ever been involved in - to look into little Grace’s eyes and see the pure joy as Ronan sang to her was a very emotional and joyful moment for us all.
“It really is so good to think that with all the commercialism that people can still have a profound and positive effect on other’s lives.
“Ronan was very emotional himself - he made his way especially back from Dubai and Australia and after listening to Grace’s mother Olga telling little Grace’s story he became very emotional - he was extremely touched.”
