Mary Walsh celebrated her birthday’s in Ballybofey’s Villa Rose hotel on Sunday while Rose Gallagher is due to celebrate hers in the same venue at the weekend. Owner Tommy Gallen said he has never had one celebration of a hundreth birthday before, never mind two in the one week. “It is unique, I’d say and I’ll probably never see it again. The two ladies are so well with it, they are absolutely great.”

Rose makes the visit home from the U.S. every year and celebrates her birthday in Donegal most years.

Mrs. Walsh, who has four children and seven great grand children, received a letter from the President last week and her son Eddie said she has been very much looking forward to the birthday celebrations. He said he believed his mother was the first person to turn 100 in Cappry during his lifetime. “I don’t remember anyone turning 100 in Cappry before and she is the second in the parish of Stranorlar and there is a third due before the end of the year, so there will be three this year in the parish. I don’t know what it is but there must be something about the Ballybofey area. She is still very alert and she has been looking forward to it.”
