Cash box, coins and postcards on offer at Book Fair

A cash box, complete with old coins, used in Charlie McKane’s former shop in Stranorlar and a large selection of postcards dating back to 1902 are among the items which will be on sale at the monthly book and collectable fair to be held in the House of Books in Ballybofey this Saturday.

A cash box, complete with old coins, used in Charlie McKane’s former shop in Stranorlar and a large selection of postcards dating back to 1902 are among the items which will be on sale at the monthly book and collectable fair to be held in the House of Books in Ballybofey this Saturday.

The cash container, which had been in use before the arrival of cash registers, was donated by Kathleen McKane from Castlefin. The coinage dates back to as far as 1895.

Meanwhile, the superb collection of colour postcards, including a variety featuring Donegal scenes, is contained in an album.

“They date back to 1902 and come from all over the world,” says House of Books proprietor, Danny McIntyre. “We’ve already sold a few of them but there are many more on offer.”

The Donegal Book Fair runs on the first Saturday of every month.
