Car thefts - two in custody

Two men have been remanded in custody and a bench warrant issued for a third in relation to a series of thefts from cars in Donegal town. Austin Mogan (24) of Scrahill, Mountcharles and Dermot Gildea (21) of Keadue, Barnesmore both appeared before Donegal District Court on Monday in relation to the offences, which took place at Quay Street Car Park, Donegal town on August 1 and 2, 2010. A bench warrant was issued for the arrest of Darren McBreary, (19) of 27 Orchard Park, Donegal as he did not appear in court. Garda Inspector Denis Joyce said that five cars were broken into and a number of items taken. Acting on information from a member of the public, gardaí carried out searches and, when the found the missing items “admissions were made” by the defendants. Judge Kevin Kilrane said it was “a very serious and nasty offence” and he wanted more information. He remanded both men in custody to appear at Ballyshannon District Court tomorrow (Friday).
