Last evening Donegal Fire services were tackling a number of significant gorse fires across the county.
Up to five fire service crews from Gweedore, Glenties and Dungloe as well as local Gardai were attending the scene is a residential area in Knockastoler, Bunbeg, at the time of press.
It is understood that two residential properties were damaged in the blaze, as was a number of outbuildings. The roads were closed as they fought to keep the fire out of control and they flames crossed the road at the old national school into the townland of Ballindrait, Bunbeg.
A separate blaze took place in a remote area of Upper Loughanure in the townland of Ardveen.
Another gorse fire was reported just outside Buncrana.
Chief Fire Officer Bobby McMenamin described the situation as “serious” and the number of fires taking place at the same time left fire services in the area “stretched”.
