There is growing concerns amongst parents that the footpath leading up to the new Finn Valley School in Stranorlar will not be completed prior to the school opening.
Mayor Cora Harvey has said: “The Tánaiste confirmed in a Dail Question that the works at the school are on schedule and will open in September, this however raises concerns regarding the footpath approaching the school and a number of parents have contacted me in this regard.
“I welcome the funding announced by the Tánaiste that monies has been secured for the provision of the footpath, however it falls short and will not be enough to complete the project.
“The members of the Stranorlar Electoral Area have unanimously agreed to divert funding towards this project as we believe that the pedestrian safety is paramount, however this will mean that other parts of our electoral area which require specific improvement works will suffer. Therefore I would urgently plead with the Tánaiste and the Minister for Transport and Roads to seriously look at this proposal and the implications that this is having for Donegal County Council.
Mayor Harvey concludes: “This project has the full backing of all the members of the Stranorlar Electoral Area and as an area committee we have made representation to the various departments and will do all that we can to ensure that the works get done in a satisfactory timeframe.”
