Creeslough fire victim to be laid to rest on Friday
The funeral of the Creeslough woman who died tragically in a house fire on Tuesday will take place on Friday.

The funeral of the Creeslough woman who died tragically in a house fire on Tuesday will take place on Friday.

Josephine Higgs, late of Ballyboes, will be laid to rest after 11am Requiem Mass in St Michaels Church, Creeslough.

Her remains will repose at the Eternal Light Chapel of Rest, Mountain Top, Letterkenny on Thursday, January 1, from 5pm to 7pm.

From there her remains will travel to her home village where she will lay in repose over night in St Michaels Church prior to the funeral.

Mrs Higgs, nee Boyle, was in her late seventies.

She was taken from her home where she lived alone in the early hours of Tuesday morning but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three fire crews from Letterkenny and Falcarragh services brought the fire under control and the house was extensively damaged.

Gardaí and an ambulance team also attended the incident.

The community has been stunned and saddened by Mrs Higgs death.

She came from a well-known and respected local family.

A mother of two, she ran her own hairdressing business in Creeslough village for many years.

She is predeceased by her late husband, David, who passed away a year ago, and is survived by her two sons, Colin, Creeslough, and Brian in New Zealand and wider family.

An investigation is now underway to establish the cause of the fire.
