The respect that former hotelier and politician the late Jim White commanded was well and truly exemplified over the last number of days in both Donegal Town and his native Ballyshannon.
Today, both towns ground to a halt as the mortal remains of the man who meant so much to so many people were brought to his final resting place at St. Anne’s in Ballyshannon.
This morning in Donegal Jims’s staff joined by the community of the town, politicians of all shades formed a guard of honours as his remains were carried around the Eske - side town led by a lone piper.
There were tears in many’s an eye as his adopted town bade farewell to this man that had a word for everyone.
Arriving in Ballyshannon Jim was brought past his former home at Danby House as once again the town lined out to show their respect to a man that had served them well.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny was joined by the Aide de Compte for President Higgins, Col. McAndrew and many other senior politicians at the church to pay their final respects to this remarkable man.
One mourner told the Democrat - “Jim continued in death as he did in life - he filled Donegal to the brim over the last few days.
“Ní bheidh a leithíd ann arís.”
