Oil prices yesterday hit their lowest level for almost six years with speculation that they will still fall even further.
There had been criticism that the savings in the global market had not been passed on at the pumps previously but this has shown improvement in the last few weeks.
In October last the average price of petrol per litre in the county was €155.90, today this is €131.90. Likewise with diesel in October diesel averaged €145.90, today this is €121.90 .
A survey around the county showed that Applegreen in Letterkenny and O’Donnell’s in Crolly offered among the lowest prices on the forecourts with unleaded at €125.80 and diesel as low as €119.80.
Elsewhere in Donegal prices were considerably higher with unleaded on offer at €132.90 and €126.90 per litre respectively in parts of the county. A spokesperson for the AA said, “The lesson to be learned is shop around.”
