A reward is being offered for the return of a set of removable rear seats from a wheelchair accessible taxi in Letterkenny.

The vehicle owner had removed the seats and placed them at the front of his home at 7 Ballymacool Terrace on Tuesday at approximately 5pm.

It is understood a short time later they were removed from outside the house and stored in an alleyway nearby and were there until approximately 6.15pm, after which it’s claimed an unidentified van arrived and removed the seats with out the owner’s permission sometime between 6.15pm and 7pm.

The seats are custom made for the taxi vehicle, a Volkswagen Transporter, and work on a system where they can be easily removed to accommodate a wheelchair user and returned to make the bus an eight seater vehicle for other taxi work.

They are described as being in good condition and of little use to others.

An appeal for anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the Ballymacool Terrace area between 6pm and 7pm on Tuesday, or have any other information, to contact Gardaí in Letterkenny.
