The Chairman of the Donegal Branch of the IFA has expressed his deep personal sympathy on the deaths of two neighbours and active members of the farming community in the tragic accident on Friday night last.

Both Seamus Hegarty and Kevin Woods lost their lives when a tractor wheel exploded while they were fixing it on Friday evening at the Cross in Killygordon.

Speaking to the Donegal Democrat P J McMonagle said, “What can I really say ? There are no words that can adequately sum up the grief over the loss of these two men - at times like this words can be meaningless.

“It was simply a freak accident that leaves us all shocked. These two men were hard working, quiet and modest and both committed to their community. They will be deeply missed.

“At times like this the larger family of the farming community will rally around their grieving families in the hope of bringing them some comfort and support.”

Mr. Hegarty was interred after funeral mass at St. Patrick’s Church in Murlog on Monday while his friend and neighbour Kevin Woods was buried on Tuesday, also in Murlog.
