President Michael D Higgins has been formally invited to attend the Orange Order parade in Rossnowlagh next year.

The Grand Master of the Orange Lodge of Ireland Edward Stevenson extended the historic invitation when he spoke at the march in Rossnowlagh this year.

President Higgins has now confirmed that he has received a formal invitation to attend next year’s July 12 Orange Order celebrations in Rossnowlagh.

He told Highland Radio that he hasn’t yet decided whether he will attend.

“The letter has now being received and it is being processed.”

“I think that later on in the year that we will be through all of these (invitations) and establishing my schedule for the future,” said the President.

“But I wouldn’t be appropriate for me to give a comment on it now until we have had that examination.”
