Gardai investigating the Letterkenny road collision which left a 23-year-old man critically injured are trying to establish how the collision occurred.
Darry McDaid from Lifford is still in a critical condition after the collision which occurred between the Pole Star and Dry Arch roundabouts at around 1am on Thursday.
Investigators are trying to establish how the car he was driving crossed four lanes of one of Letterkenny’s main roads before colliding with a telegraph pole and traffic signs.
Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses to the accident and are investigating whether or not another vehicle may have been involved in the collision.
Investigators are puzzled as to why the silver BMW Mr. McDaid was driving crossed from the left hand lane heading out of Letterkenny to collide with the telegraph pole and traffic signs on the far side.
Forensic experts spent 12 hours examining the four lanes on Thursday which caused serious traffic congestion in and around the town during most of Thursday.
Gardaí are appealing for any person who may have travelled on the road or observed the BMW prior to the collision to contact them at Letterkenny Garda Station on 074 916 7100.
Mr. McDaid remains in a critical condition in Letterkenny General Hospital.
