Rossa Danagher is bringing home to Donegal and Sligo international honours from the Alternative Hair Show in London.

“It’s overwhelming,” Rossa said. “I’m delighted.”

Rossa, who owns Rossano’s Hair Stylists in Ballyshannon and Sligo, took a first place International Visionary Award in ladies cut and colour. His winning entry provided a full fashion head-to-toe look.

The 32nd Alternative Hair Show was held on Sunday evening before an audience of 5,000 people at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Rossa finished first among 32 finalists from Australia, Italy, the UK, Taiwan, Spain, Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Netherlands, Canada and other countries around the globe.

Calling the win a highlight of his career, Rossa said, “I’ve worked so hard for this.” He thanked colourist Mariesa Travers, a member of his creative team, and Carmel Hynes for their contributions.

The finalists were selected from more than 800 entries. Rossa competed against 186 Irish entries to make the finals.

Tony Rizzo, founder of Alternative Hair, said the international awards received a record number of submissions this year. “The shortlist was truly impressive and competition to select the finalists was fierce,” he said.
