The lone resident of a small island near Arranmore had to be airlifted to Letterkenny Hospital after sustaining a fall yesterday morning.

The Arranmore lifeboat crew was tasked to attend the woman who is believed to have fallen while cleaning windows at her holiday home on Lahan Island, near Cloughglass.

She alerted the emergency services via mobile phone and the lifeboat crew used a dinghy to access her and evacuated her from the island where she was assessed by the medical crew of a coastguard helicopter scrambled from Sligo. She was then brought to Letterkenny General Hospital for treatment and is recovering.
