Campers won’t be allowed to park at the Port Arthur beach in future, according to a spokesperson from the local committee.
A local committee was established a number of weeks ago following compliants of insufficent facilities for both sewerage and rubbish in the area where campers had been locating in recent years.
A spokesperson for Coiste Phort Arthur, Hughie Mac Giolla Bhríde has been quick to establish the ownership of the land and has spoken to both council officials and departmental officials in relation to the situation. The committee met again on Tuesday night.
“We are not against tourism at all. This problem is not esclusive to Port Arthur and will become an issue for some other area later. We’ve been advised that the area is a Special Area of Conservation and no one can camp on it,” he said. A meeting will be held oin the Crannóg Gaoth Dobhiar at 8pm on Tuesday night.
