A grieving mother told the packed congregation at the funeral Mass for her late son that “he was simply the best” and had lived life to the full.
21-year-old Kara McCole lost his life in an industrial accident in Killybegs on Friday last and at his funeral Mass yesterday at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Mountcharles, his mother Bernadine took the courageous step of addressing the hundreds of mourners gathered to say their farewells.
Bernadine said: “Many of you here today would have known Kara, some of you might not know us, but we are all here today for one reason - for Kara.
“There is just one word to describe Kara - fast. Everything he did was just fast.
“He came into this world fast - a very quick delivery. He was first to work - in early years at school he couldn’t get it over fast enough. In sports he was fast achieving success in both baseball and basketball. He came to Ireland from America in a hurry and when he went to school here, he wanted out fast. He loved his cars and he went through them so quickly we didn’t know what he would arrive in next. Sadly his death on Friday was also fast.”
She added: “Even though he had lived in America for two thirds of his life he knew everybody here. “I would say he did more calls in the parish than the parish priest. He seemed to be having his dinner or tea in every house in the area - everybody took him as one of their own.
