An award in memory of Alan McSherry, the surfer who died after being struck by a car in Bundoran on August 25, will be presented at the Transatlantic Connections Conference this week
The 48-year-old Liverpool man had made his adopted home in Bundoran and Kinlough, where he and his wife Jo were at the heart of the local community. He was also a gifted craftsman, known for his quality woodwork and furniture restoration.
On the evening before his funeral, surfers organised a ‘paddle out’ tribute from Bundoran Boat Quay, when they formed a circle in the water, scattered flowers on the sea and said prayers.
On Friday night, at the conference closing supper and awards ceremony in the Atlantic Aparthotel, Mr McSherry’s niece Tara will present an award on behalf of the family and in memory of her uncle, to the author of the Best Paper in the Surf Culture section of the conference.
