With just 12 boxes left to open in the Letterkenny area things are looking good for Fianna Fail with three candidates polling over 1,100 votes each.
Tallies show sitting councillor Ciaran Brogan has just over 1,400 votes. Fellow party member Liam Blaney has 1,160 while the youngest candidate in the race James “Pat McDaid has polled almost 1,080.
Independent candidate John O’Donnell has polled strongly at almost 1,300 votes. Sinn Feins Gerry McMonagle has a strong showing with 992, while Mayor of Donegal Cllr Ian McGarvey on 967, Michael McBride on 953, while fellow independent Dessie Shiels tallies show 800.
Sinn Feins Mick Quinn is showing 830 while Fine Gaels Jimmy Kavanagh has 754, Fine Gaels Noel McBride has 650 with Independent Donal Cullen on 633.
A final tally for Inishowen, the first boxes to be opened this morning, is showing strong support for Sinn Fein as well as Independent candidate, Nicholas Crossan who, the tallies show, took 1,250 first preference votes.

Mickey Doherty Fine Gael has 607, Finnan Fails Rena Donaghey on 1098, Ciaran McLaughlin Sinn Fein on 952, Labour Party’s Martin Farren has 1012, John Ryan Fine Gael with 874, Bernard Mc Guinness Fine Gael on 1185, John Ryan from Fine Gael has 874, Paul Ferguson Ind 90, Eilis Haden Direct Democrat Ireland has 93, Patrick Mc Carroll Independent on 556,
Mary Mc Cauley Fianna Fail 493, Ciaran Mc Laughlin Sinn Fein 952, Peter Mc Laughlin Fine Gael on 358 with Joe Murphy from People Before Profit is showing 583 and independent Ryan Stewart on 299.
