Bishop Philip Boyce will launch a new Diocesan Justice and Peace Group in Letterkenny tomorrow, Thursday, February 20, as part of World Day of Social Justice.
The launch will take place at the Diocese of Raphoe Pastoral Centre in Letterkenny at 12.30pm.
Members of this new group include Domhnall MacCionnaith, Catherine Lyster, Rev Stuart Wright, Fr Martin Collum, Mary McDermott, Jim Farrell, Fr Oliver McCrossan and Fr John Joe Duffy.
A spokesperson for the Diocese said: “This inter faith group aims to highlight salient issues of justice at a local and international level.
“For this year, the group has chosen to support Trócaire’s UpToUs Campaign which calls on us to take action for a more just, equal and sustainable world. The campaign asks us to rethink the way we consume the earth’s precious resources and also calls on the Irish government to adopt strong legislation in relation to climate change which is having a devastating effect on communities in developing countries. It also puts the spotlight on the issue of biofuels, produced for European cars on land in developing countries which should be used to grow food.”
On a local level, the group will focus on the valuable contribution that migrants and asylum seekers bring to our communities and will and collaborate with other agencies to enable them to share fully in the life of our communities.”
