After speculation last week a potential candidate for the Local Election has confirmed that he will not now be running in May.
Pauric Kennedy who comes from a strong Fianna Fáil dynasty confirmed that he will not be putting himself forward as a candidate.
Kennedy said, “I have been approached by many local people in the community and prominent business people in the town to run for the local elections and regain my father’s seat which Dad held for over 20 years.
“After much deliberation with family, friends and supporters, I cannot in all conscience run knowing that the vote within the town is being diminished just as in 2009 elections.
“It really dismays me that Donegal Town could potentially find itself without a voice in Lifford after the May elections. The vote is again being split and eroded within the town and environs by some candidates who in my opinion should have learnt their lessons or know better.”
