The wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has revealed that her husband’s ‘real ambition’ is to take a family holiday back in Ballyshannon.
Cherie Blair, the former Prime Minister’s wife is a regular visitor to Ireland, and has her roots in Cork.
As a child, Tony Blair spent many happy days during his summer holidays visiting his relatives in Ballyshannon while staying at the Sandhouse Hotel in Rossnowlagh and has often spoken of his wish to come back with all the family.
On hearing the news, Paul Diver of the Sandhouse Hotel told the Donegal Democrat, “Tony Blair has often spoken of his visit to the Sandhouse and even mentioned it in his book. There is no doubt that he thoroughly enjoyed his time here.
“In this the year of The Gathering there couldn’t be a more appropriate time for him to visit. I will be writing to the family to invite them back to the Sandhouse as our guests. I know he would get a truly great Donegal welcome.”
