Letterkenny has been named as one of the top ten tourism towns again in this year’s Tourism Towns competition.
This year Fáilte Ireland is seeking to recognise the achievements of the top ten tourism towns in three categories - best small tourism town, best large tourism town and an award for the best overall tourism town .
Letterkenny Tidy Towns submitted the application on behalf of Letterkenny and hosted the visit of Mr Frank Donaldson and Mr Pat Nolan, two Fáilte Ireland Assessors to the town, on Thursday last.
During a presentation to the assessors, representatives of the town spoke of Letterkenny in terms of a sense of place, tourism experience, local involvement and promotion.
The town’s strengths were underlined by Letterkenny Town Mayor Cllr Paschal Blake, Anne Mc Gowan Chairperson Letterkenny Tidy Towns, Terry Mc Eniff Mount Errigal Hotel, Toni Forrester Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce, Kathleen O’Doherty, Letterkenny Reunion Committee, Ciaran Martin , Letterkenny Town Council and Daireann Mc Elwain, Letterkenny Tourism .
Later Anne Mc Gowan and Denis Doyle provided the adjudicators with a two hour long guided tour of Letterkenny and of the town’s tourist attractions
The overall winners will be announced at a function in Dublin in November.
