The search for the driver of the vehicle involved in a fatal hit and run near Bundoran is continuing five days after the accident.

A funeral service for Alan McSherry (48) is to take place in Bundoran this morning.

His remains will be taken to his native Birkenhead in England for a funeral and cremation service.

Mr. McSherry died after being struck by a vehicle at around 5 am on Sunday morning at Ardfarn, Bundoran while walking between Bundoran and Boynagh in Co. Leitrim. He was discovered by his wife Joanne when she went to look for him after receiving missed calls to her phone.

Vehicle parts were found at the scene. Gardaí seized a car from very close to the scene on Monday but it was released on Tuesday after test results ruled out its involvement.

Inspector Denis Joyce of Ballyshannon Garda Station said a lot of witnesses have made statements.

He appealed for the driver to come forward. “We are appealing for information for anyone who was in the area between 4.30 am and 5.15 am,” he said.
