The 70-year-old woman who died following a road traffic accident in Inishowen on Monday is to be laid to rest tomorrow.
Maura Porter died after being struck by a car close to her home at Churchtown Carndonagh on the road to Buncrana at around 5.40pm on Monday.
The accident happened just 150 yards from her home. She was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry were she died before midnight from serious head injuries. The driver of the car, a man in his 40s, was not injured.
Local priest, Fr. Con McLaughlin, said Mrs. Porter was very respected in her community. “There are people that, on meeting them, we recognise something special. Maura was certainly one of these people - a quiet-spoken, positive, outgoing woman, very well known and respected in the community. Her sensitive and caring disposition was well recognised and appreciated in the Carndonagh area. She lived for her husband, Neil, her daughter, Davina and her son, Brendan. Her faith was very special to her. She attended Mass each day in Carndonagh. It is ironic that she was returning from a visit to the Church when the accident occurred, almost in front of her home in Churchtown. On a personal note, I, like the whole community here, feel a great sense of sadness and loss at her passing.”
