The man charged with the murder of a Polish national in Letterkenny has been sent forward to appear at the Central Criminal Court.
Dariusz Weckowicz (48) of no fixed abode appeared at Letterkenny District Court on Monday where the book of evidence in the case was served on him. He is charged with the murder of Bogdan Michalkiewicz at 15 Westside Apartments in Letterkenny between May 13th and 15th.
Inspector David Kelly told the court that the High Court had granted bail but it had not been taken up. Solicitor for Weckowicz, Kieran Dillon, said he was making a fresh application for bail and asked Judge Kelly to consider reducing the independent surety. Judge Kelly said “he was not going to second-guess” the High Court on the issue and remanded Weckowicz in custody until November 25th for the next sitting of the Central Criminal Court. Mr. Dillon said his client has medical issues and Judge Kelly directed that Weckowicz be medically examined and referred for whatever treatment is appropriate. The judge also granted legal aid for the translation of the book of evidence.
