Sinn Féin Cllr. Marie Therese Gallagher said the county council needed to ensure the Burtonport sewerage scheme was prioritised with the government.
At Monday’s council meeting, Cllr. Gallagher said the Glenties Electoral Area had been told by council that the department had turned down the scheme. However, she said, the department said the an application had not been received for the scheme. Glenties Electoral Area Cllrs. David Alcorn, Pádraig Doherty, Terence Slowey and Seamus Ó Domhnaill supported the motion.
Joe Peoples, council director of water and environment, said initial discussions with Irish Water, the incoming water authority, indicated a number of small projects will receive priority when the authority comes in next year and could become part of a multi-year programme of works.
