The small town of Ardara was enveloped in a shroud of grief today as the close-knit community gathered to say their final farewell to a popular young man who lost his life in a tragic drowning accident in Dublin last week.

Conal was loved by everybody who knew him. That was evident as his remains, draped with his football jersey, were brought to the Church of the Holy Family escorted by his family, friends, former teammates, and GAA officials.

He has been described as “the life and soul of everything, full of fun and great craic.” A former teacher at Glenties Comprehensive School said: “I taught for 36 years in Glenties and it was kids like Conal that made you go in every morning.”

Conal is survived by his parents Tony and Anita, sisters Marie, Sarah, Anne and Bridget, brothers Hugh and Anthony and a large circle of friends.
