The cost of renting a single room in the town for a month is 174 euro, which is a 7.4 per cent drop from the same time last year. According to the figures from Daft.ie the cost of a double room is 249 euro a month, an increase of 7.8 per cent.

The cost of renting a single room in Sligo town is 222 euro, a 5.2 per cent increase on last year while a double room costs 256 euro, a drop of 3 per cent.

The most expensive student accommodation is in Dublin where a single room in the city centre costs 433 euro a month with a double costing 521 euro. Students looking to rent accommodation near Dublin colleges face a 7% increase in prices from a year ago. Rental prices outside of Dublin have risen by 1% over the same period. Ronan Lyons, Economist with Daft.ie, said: “Demand for accommodation remains strong in urban areas, especially in Dublin.
