A defendant who was involved in a high speed chase through Barnes Gap after allegedly “ramming” both a Garda car and large van was remanded in custody at Monday’s sitting of Donegal District Court until Friday next 12th at Harristown Court.

Derek Robinson was charged with three counts of dangerous driving at three different locations on April 7 at Upper Main St., Donegal Town, Clar, Donegal Town and Meenacrumlin, Ballybofey. The defendant was also charged with failing to provide a sample at Donegal Town on the same date and with failing failure to stop at Upper Main St., Donegal Town.

Inspector Denis Joyce told the court that he would oppose an application for bail as the defendant was facing serious charges which included several charges of dangerous driving and allegedly ramming a patrol car and Garda van resulting in a high speed car chase through Barnes Gap.

Judge Kevin Kilrane said, “There is a real and substantial risk of this man re-offending and I am remanding him in custody until Friday next at Harristown Court.”
